What is NixCon?
NixCon is the annual conference for the Nix and NixOS community. It's a place to learn, share, and connect with others interested in Nix.
Do I need a visa to attend?
It depends on your country of origin. Please check this government website for visa information for further details.
I need a letter of invitation for my visa which information do you need?
Please provide:
- Surname
- First name
- Date of birth
- Address
- Telephone number
- Email address
- Nationality
- And your NixCon ticket number.
Is there parking available?
The following site (in German) provides a list of public parking spaces available in the city. The campus itself doesn't have any long time parking spaces.
In general we recommend that you arrive by public transport. The venue is right next to the train station and trains are frequent and punctual.
How do I plan and book public transport?
The easiest way is to use the SBB website or their SBB Mobile app.
What is the cheapest way to travel by public transport?
For the arrival you can try to buy one of the limited day passes for Switzerland.
During the conference you can buy a 24h-ticket for the Zürich region or the 9 o'clock day pass.
Both are available from SBB as well.
What is special about the hotels in the 'Accommodation' menu?
They are regional hotels which agreed to give us a discount and/or reserved a contingent for the conference. They were contacted by us and asked for it.
Is there some place I can camp?
There is a camping place in the city which you have to reserve in advance.
I didn't see the voucher and paid for the ticket, what do I do?

I can't afford the ticket but I'm not eligible for a ticket?
Send an email to nixcon@nixos.org and describe your situation and we see what we can do.
Where do I get food?
Food will be provided free for all attendees. Check the "event details" on the main page for the details.
Where can I buy groceries?
There are various stores in the city. The main chains are called Migros and Coop. Right next to the train station is a small Coop that is even open on Sundays: Coop location on OpenStreetMap
How long are the doors open?
On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the doors are open from 9:00 to 21:00.
Can I swim in the lake?
Yes, you can, bring your swimwear. You can check the water temperature on this website.
What power outlets is Switzerland using?
Switzerland uses the type J plug. It is compatible with the two-pin type C plug from the EU.
Are there other things I can do?
Various groups are organising smaller events in the space-time surrounding NixCon. If you’re up for some additional adventures, check the notice board or add your own side-quests.
